The General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Advanced Level Examination is conducted by the Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka. This is the same level examination as the London A/L examination conducted by the UK. This is the final examination of Sri Lankan school children. The main qualification to apply for this is to pass the G.C.E. O/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations. This exam is also an entrance examination for universities. Those who pass the examination will be selected for the state universities based on the Z-score given for all three subjects. Many students from the Arts stream choose the Sinhala language subject for GCE Advanced Level in Sri Lanka.
