August 15, 2024Overview of this Sinhala essay
The most popular medical system in the world is the Western tradition, originated by Hippocrates of Greece. What we call indigenous medicine is the medical tradition that began with the sage Dhanwantari in India. Both of these traditions are popular among the people of Sri Lanka.
Due to the lack of medicines, trained doctors, and medical equipment, patients in Sri Lanka are losing the opportunity to receive formal medical treatment. There is a saying among us: “even if a king falls ill…” This implies that sickness is a common disaster for everyone. When we are sick, we all think of the doctor and medicine. Unfortunately, many people say that due to the economic, social, and political bankruptcy of the world caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a shortage of medicines and medical equipment. Especially with the economic and political deterioration of our country, the incidence of corruption and fraud in government institutions has risen dramatically. As a result, the government sector imported inferior medicines into the country, leading to a major crisis in the medical sector.
