Sri Lanka is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and consists of lakes, ponds and reservoirs in the middle of the country. From ancient times the people of our country have been engaged in fishing in the sea and fresh water. The fishing industry in Sri Lanka is as old as farming. The fishing industry is a source of human nutritional needs.There are a number of areas with fishing harbors where the fishing industry is successful while protecting the marine environment as well.
